It’s a rainy Monday (you don’t say that often in San Diego) and I (Karl) am down with a nasty cold today. If you read the last post you know that I just knocked off my big race for the year with a PR at Ironman Arizona. It’s always an odd time in those few weeks following the completion of a major goal. I often find that I have to make myself pause to enjoy the moment and a little downtown before immediately jumping on to the next big challenge. Maybe you to are plotting your own attempt at an Ironman race or maybe you are thinking of tackling your first 5k in 2010. There is an awfully wide spectrum of challenges out there and the trick is finding the one thing that will get you inspired and motivated for the coming year. People often tell me that they can’t believe how disciplined I am. The truth of the matter is that I don’t think that I am very disciplined at all. That is why I am allways adding races and challenges to my calendar and plotting these goals out a year in advance. When you put yourself out there and tell everyone close to you that you are training to finish your first marathon, your first triathlon, loose 10 lbs….whatever……it forces you to be accountable and provides for a great support structure. Your friends will constantly ask you “how’s the training going”, “how are you feeling”, “are you ready for the big race”. It’s like having an endless number of training partners and coaches that hold you accountable. So what motivates you for 2010?
We are all fortunate to live in San Diego where we have such an active community. Hardly a week goes by that there isn’t a 5k, 10k, triathlon, bike race….you name it. Whatever floats your boat is out there….so go do it. What are you waiting for? If I can preach for just a few minutes more, what I have been going on about is the philosophy behind Aire Urban. We didn’t want to have a gym like every other gym where people aimlessly go through random workouts with no particular purpose or goal in mind. We hope that we can help you find your passion and achieve your personal best. We have some of the best equipment in the country with Power Tap Cycling, Computrainer Multi Rider Systems, TRX Suspension Training, Gravity, Indoor Group Rowing, I could go on and on and on. And did I mention that we even have Olympic Athletes and elite age groupers here at Aire to help guide you on your way?
I hope that you are enjoying the holiday season and wish you great success in all of your pursuits for 2010!
